Satellite Homes Community Project
Project Period: 2011-2015
Location: Harare & Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe, Central Africa
Sponsor: Achmea Foundation
Supported by Achmea Foundation the Ten Foundation built satellite homes communities: Each community consists of a small office and a few homes for 5 residents each. Each home has a kitchen, bathroom and a communal space. Shared services include a water pump (with warm water through solar energy) and a shared vegetable garden. Each community also has a living space for personnel who manage the community.
The goal was to create a community where young adults can safely live, yet learn to become independent and self supporting. The staff help them through this learning process and support them in their future steps. Achmea Foundation has committed to supporting this project for three years.
