Karoi Children’s Home

As her first project Ten Foundation founded the Children’s Home in Karoi, Zimbabwe in 1998 and continues to do so to this day. The Karoi’s Children’s Home shelters 74 children. Throughout the years Ten Foundation, together with the Ten Trust, has initiated, supported and completed many projects, including:
Learn & Play Project:
Together with Close the Gap, E-learning for Children and the Fiep Westendorp Foundation 27 computers were purchased in 2017, each outfitted with a specially developed learning programme.
Activities of the project included: Setting up a safe computer area, assisting the children and the staff in learning how to work with a computer, and integrating the use of computers in the school curriculum with the school leadership.
Cradle to Cradle Food Training with GRO (Green Recycled Organics):
Ten Foundation reached out to Green Recycled Organic (GRO), a Dutch company who started with the growing of mushrooms on coffee residue. In 2011 GRO was awarded the National Horeca Innovation Durability Award. Together, Ten Foundation and GRO set up a training to teach the residents of the children’s home to grow their own mushrooms using this same method.
Aside from GRO, support for this project came from Bralima Foundation, Cordaid and CAOS.
